“You don’t legislate love, you legislate property.” Above all this is a love story, and these words resonated in Jere Myles’ first book. In the final book of his trilogy, Myles retains the legacy and ideals that psychiatrist, Dr. Mieko Mitchell, held closely and passed to Jonathan Rose. In the previous two books, Jere Myles has provided an education as well as a commentary on gay marriage. “Murder on Michigan Avenue” leaves little to the imagination as the murder mystery series crashes to an unbelievable climax as he examines how two men in love.

This is a love story as seminal as any you will ever read on the right to choose who you love and who you want to marry. Jon is on a personal crusade to resolve issues of love, live and let live, as he and others discover “Who was behind the door?”

“Murder on Michigan Avenue” begins with an unsuspecting revelation that puts readers into the minds of characters as various stories unfold to clarify as Myles speeds you to an unforgettable ending. Questions are finally answered. Deep secrets are uncovered. The author wrenches your heart as Mieko and Jon’s story finds an unexpected ending. You’re on a roller coaster of a ride before Myles brings you back to the doorbell chime that ended the last book. Myles teases you with revelations that are haunting, yet necessary for readers to empathize fully with the characters introduced in the previous two books.

All of the principal characters are back for an encore in this third book Jon and Eileen, the police lieutenant who botched the investigation into Mieko’s murder, and the pontifical Father Francis, a priest who is as handsome as a model. All are here seeking justice. New characters like lawyer Geri Legg, the former NFL star who’s gay and an Agatha Christi matriarch sleuth add twists that keep you reading as Myles seamlessly interweaves them into the fabric of the story. There is an essence of 'Six degrees of Separation' that stuns you as characters provide parts to an ending none of them suspected or expected while they come face to face with demons none of them realized they had.

Almost prophetic, this story could have been ripped off the front page in your town. Whether or not you are for or against gay marriage, this book will make you think about it. It will make you deal with the question, “Can you legislate love?”

Murder on Michigan Avenue Book 3 in the Murder Series - edition by Jere Myles. Literature & Fiction eBooks @ . Reviews

I'm hesitant at saying too much, just let it be said that Myles neatly tied this trilogy up, but does he? There is a sadness in this book. His characters take you places you might not want to go. It's a provocative story that makes you think. I loved them all and hope there is another book because I want so much to learn more about the characters. Ahead of its time, a true murder romance that places gay marriage and being able to love who you want at the forefront of being who you were intended to be. Good job!
Murder on Michigan Avenue (Murder Series Book 3) by Jere Myles is the last in series of thought provoking books that take on murder mysteries, but also attitudes toward gay rights. With a bit of a jumping around plot that vacillates between different time frames, the story is at time difficult to follow. We open with George the doorman who has a relationship with a famous NFL'r. Myles the author has given a lot of page space to develop new and different characters, this somewhat detracts from the story. We end up with more of a social treatise on gay marriage than a murder mystery in this installment. While that aspect is not altogether distracting, it does take getting used to. There is more a note of romance in this book and while the mystery is neatly tied up at the conclusion, it does take a bit to get a resolution. With a little patience on the reader's part and an open mind, this is a fine final installment in the series.
Texas author Jere Myles earned his degree from the University of Tennessee as a theater major, spent time in the Army, and then did improv at Player’s Workshop of Second City with Dan Castellaneta under the direction of Jo Forsberg. Jere and writes poetry, plays, scripts for reader’s theater, and now his current published works – his novel writing debut – form a trilogy he calls THE MURDER SERIES of which MURDER ON MICHIGAN AVENUE is Book 3. Jere states his series is set in the 90s, focusing on a myriad of issues that involve freedom, fighting for the underdog, gay rights. It’s a love story with a subtext so brutal and real that it’s as though it was taken.

The rewarding aspect of reading a debut offering that is written in the form of a trilogy is seeing how an author’s gifts mature. Jere had many fine ideas in Book 1 but in this completion of his trilogy those ideas become more memorable, in part due to the fact that he ‘completes’ the characters he create in Book 1 and that allows him to make his story more pungent. The murder that happened comes to resolution, the love between his tow gay characters is more fully appreciated, and in general the facts and ideas planted in that original field of Chicago come to harvest. He deals with contemporary social issues by offering us some cogent background material.

Portions of the synopsis prepare the reader for whom this is the first book experienced in the trilogy. ‘Above all this is a love story. All of the principal characters are back - Jon and Eileen, the police lieutenant who botched the investigation into Mieko’s murder, and the pontifical Father Francis, a priest who is as handsome as a model. All are here seeking justice. New characters like lawyer Geri Legg, the former NFL star who’s gay and an Agatha Christi matriarch sleuth add twists. The legacy and ideals that psychiatrist, Dr. Mieko Mitchell, held closely and passed to Jonathan Rose are here. In the previous two books, Myles has provided an education as well as a commentary on gay marriage. Whether or not you are for or against gay marriage, this book will make you think about it. It will make you deal with the question, “Can you legislate love?”

Tense, well-paced, refreshingly vital in its messages, MURDER ON MICHIGAN AVENUE is a fine and fitting closure for this successful trilogy. Grady Harp, April 17
Unforgettable ending, how can anyone describes the ‘climax’ of this trilogy if the whole series has been utterly amazing?
Well, like all good and amazing we all had known and love, this has come to an end, but it is enough to answer all the questions? All the theories been put down and let none other than the truth to really come and shine.
That reminder at the description that says that this series is, above all, a love story really gets me at the end of the book, this is not any typical series crime books, nothing like that at all, I was unsure where do I categorize this series, but this is amazing, a masterpiece of a league of its own, my hands are sweaty as I’m trying my best to not reveal anything and just give my overall impression but all I say is, read this series, this is a revolutionary series that deals with some ‘controversial subject’ in a complicated time, and try to answer this question at the end, can you legislate love?
