Delilah Pelham's brother has gone missing in Hong Kong while negotiating a classified business deal. She isn't too concerned because his charming persona and shady schemes often get him into trouble. The only one worried and insistent they find him is Carl, who has a personal stake in the business and has discovered obscure messages that suggest her brother knew he was in danger before disappearing. Together they retrace his steps through Hong Kong and try to solve the clues left for them while dodging the people intent on stopping them. This is the first book in the Thanatos Rising series.Double Blind is an amusing story that blends action and mystery with a bit of romance and science fiction. The story has an engaging narrative that remains witty and upbeat throughout the course of the book.
I liked that the story included advanced technology with interesting consequences. The enthusiasm for the science behind the technology made it a fun addition to the story without overwhelming it.
The story has two interconnected storylines that take place in different locations. Seattle and Hong Kong were wonderful backdrops to the story. The detail and focus given to the layout of each location gave a better sense of place and movement through the story. I also liked that each setting was reinforced through the chapter titles.
The characters were memorable and endearing with clever dialogue. I liked all the small characterization details that made them more dynamic. It was also fun to see the different relationships between the characters play out.
Delilah was an interesting contrast to Carl's character. I really liked how the action scenes incorporated their different capabilities and knowledge. The fight scenes were lively and well written.
The promise of a cyber-cat was the main reason I chose to read the story. As a result Toesy quickly became my favorite character. I loved the way his mindset and behaviors were portrayed. His side story with Carl's friends was engaging read and added depth to the overall story.
Double Blind is an amusing, action packed mystery with wonderful twists and revelations. I look forward to reading its forthcoming sequel.

Double Blind Thanatos Rising Book 1 edition by Tiffany Pitts Magdalen Powers Literature Fiction eBooks Reviews
Double Blind is the first novel in the Thanatos Rising series. It's reality-based sci-fi with a strong, smart female lead, and a charmingly dorky cast of supporting characters. When a guy is introduced as unappealingly as Jake, I don't expect him to become a favorite character, but he won me over just like he did the heroine's cat (With seafood flavor). Speaking of, Toesy the immense cat is my #1 favorite and I can't wait to find out what he does in part two.
Very well written and a cleverly imaginative plot. The author uses language in the way of Lawrence Sanders (RIP) who wrote the MacNally books. A few quotes that made me laugh out loud "Yes, I remember. He is Majestic Constellations!" "He's what?" "Majestic Constellations! Big Spender and Little Tipper!" - or - (also in the restaurant) "She looked like an elf, if elves were elderly Asian women that worked in Irish pubs. The food elf set her tray down ... Carl was deeply disconcerted by the idea of being served by Chino-Celtic elves. ... He sighed in relief when she left." (Don't be put off, this is not racially biased, it's just plain funny.) Glad to hear this is the first of a series, it's definitely one I'll be following!
Starts off a bit slow, but I easily got hooked on the characters and was eager to find out what would happen to them next, and how they would handle it. I loved Thanotos, and his supporting cast were fun to read about. Meanwhile, in Hong Kong, I was also having fun reading about Deli and Carl, and all their adventures and mis-adventures. I finished this book in three days, and it only took that long because I had to work around the house and hold down a job.
I got this book for free on a whim and I am thrilled I did. Great dialogue, fun characters, quick action, Nick of time rescues, and an engaging yet still a bit mysterious heroine and hero. Lastly, if you are a cat lover, you'll really enjoy this book. I am a huge fan of this author already.
I ordered this book on a recommendation from a friend, but didn't immediately have time to read it. I was called on a last minute trip to Europe and grabbed it on my way out so I'd have something to read if my electronics died or the movies weren't any good during the extremely long trip across the US and Atlantic Ocean. Instead, I didn't end up watching a single movie or turning on a single electronic device (outside the requisite in-plane photo moment). Instead, I read this book while trapped on the tarmac (3 times), while taking off and landing, during turbulence (regrettable quick break to quell the airsickness), in the airport during my layover, walking to my hotel, walking to dinner, at dinner... Only to finish the book and look around and find myself alone in a European city feeling vaguely sheepish that I was more disappointed the book had ended than I was excited to be travelling. So yes, I'd say I definitely enjoyed this book. Try it, I really doubt you'll be sorry you did.

I enjoyed this book and would recommend it as a light read - with a bit of a reservation for me, it started very slowly and took a bit to settle in. I liked all the characters and the dialog was, for the most part, amusing - and the plot was a stretch but somewhat believable. I felt that the characters were a bit oversimplified Deli was always angry, Carl was always awkward and shy, Jake and Sacha were purely geeky, and Heather was an insane bitch. That was a bit overdone, and as i said, oversimplified. Also, I kept waiting to hear why Carl was able to say something like, "There's a 90% probability that this will happen within 20 seconds." And finally, I wanted to know more about the "beans" and how they all differed and how quickly they would or wouldn't work and how effective they would or would not be. I also wanted a bit more resolution on the fallout of Heather's interference in Carl's business.
